Odds and Props as Tiger Woods to Return at Safeway Open
In all of sports, Tiger Woods is one of the most polarizing professional athletes. Woods is the first athlete who became a billionaire and one of the best golfers of all time, but has not been a factor of any kind on the PGA Tour the past couple of years because of injuries.
Last weekend Woods was a special assistant on the U.S. Ryder Cup team that defeated Europe.
Last month, Woods, who is 40, announced he would return to play at the Safeway Open that begins the new PGA season and starts on Thursday October 13. On October 7, Woods was officially in the tournament field for the event.
A number of online sportsbooks have released odds and props on how Tiger will play in his first tournament since August 2015. Woods is a long shot at 40 to 1 to win and -165 to make the cut.
The chances of Woods returning to stardom are not that high. Since his personal problems were made public his golf game has suffered, and the sport has moved on without the former star.
Tiger’s last win in a major was the 2008 U.S. Open. In 2015, Woods played in 11 events and missed the cut in 5 of those. He finished only once in the top 10 during that same period. Woods last won on the PGA Tour in 2013.
Injuries have besieged him of late. He has had two back surgeries over the past year.
The Safeway Open will be a good start for Woods and marks the opening tournament of the 2016-2017 PGA Tour season.
